Review – Green Flash Imperial IPA
Green Flash Imperial IPA – 22oz bottle poured into New Belgium glass. 9% abv.
Appearance: Dark gold with a nice, off white head. Leaves a lacy web on the glass.
Aroma: Fragrant oranges, peel and fruit, first and foremost take the role of the hop note. A small, spicy sugary malt presence follows.
Taste: A variety of citrus juices; oranges, limes, and lemons. While the hops blow you away, it comes across more sweet than bitter. Turbinado sugar, and some pine follow the citrus. Also reminds me of a pear Jelly Belly jelly bean when its on the cold side.
Mouthfeel: A little pit puckering with the acidic hop profile, and feels a bit thick like a barleywine.
Overall: A fantastic Double IPA that SHOULD have been in our Best Double/Imperial IPA poll. I remember seeing it in New Jersey, so I would guess Green Flash, from Vista, CA, is taking a ride on the Stone Truck to get outside of California. This beer is darn near perfect, and I would only put Hop 15 by Port Brewing a head of it.

I really liked this beer. I bought a 6-pack of this and found that in every bottle there was a ton of hop sediment floating in every beer. Did you experience this too? I wrote Green Flash about it and they said it might be due to chill haze but I think they just didn’t filter this beer after they infused it with hops. Darn good but needs a bit more filtering – chunky that you can taste.
