Review – Full Sail Old Boardhead Barleywine
From Full Sail – A deliciously rich Barleywine that has a spectacular depth & delicacy of flavor that is deep & robust.
Its strong sweet body is balanced with Centennial & Crystal hops for a pleasant hoppiness & finish.
Makes a great cellar beer.
Full Sail Brewing – Old Boardhead Barleywine – Brewmasters Reserve 2008, Vintage 2008. 22 oz. bottle.Served in New Belgium Beer glass – 9% abv.
Appearance: Dark auburn with a ring of tight suds at the top. Tons of visible carbonation.
Aroma: Not overly aromatic, but aromatic none the less. A bit of apple, grape and pear. A nice touch of brown sugar as well.
Taste: Granny smith apple, pear, bitter hops, and maple sugary malts.
Mouthfeel: Full bodied and astringent.
Overall: Very complex, has tons of potential, but needs some time in the cellar. I really enjoyed the fruit profile this beer had.
