Review – Erie Brewing Golden Fleece Maibock
From Erie Brewing – As spring emerges, Golden Fleece Maibock captures center stage. This fine lager is a pleasurable reward for enduring the doldrums of Erie Pennsylvania’s harsh Lake-Effect ice and snowstorms. Celebrate the transition into spring! Golden Fleece Maibock’s deep golden color leads into a sweet malty flavor with a light hop finish. Maibock says, “RAM IT” to winter with 8.5% alcohol by volume – just enough to take the chill off your day.
Erie Brewing Co. Golden Fleece Maibock – Poured from a 12 ounce bottle into a room temperature pilsner glass –7% abv.
Appearance
Fresh apricot color with slight streaks of golden-yellow. Beautiful color in my opinion. Very clear with only a finger of puffy head on top.
Aroma
Sweet and bready. Some smells of biscuits from the malt and yeast and others of citrus fruits and fresh cut grass from the hops.
Taste
This beer is delicious. It offers a very complex blend of malts and hops and finishes with a sweet, buttery caramel flavor. Nothing is overpowering and there is just the right amount of alcohol presence.
Mouthfeel
Pretty sticky and chewy but with a bit of a dry finish. Good carbonation and just enough bitterness to still allow it to flow smooth down my throat.
Overall
I really want to thank Jim Hicks and Erie for sending me this beer. Last summer, I could not find Erie’s brands in my local brew store. However, I have since been successful in getting them to carry it regularly here in Southern New Jersey. Golden Fleece is a tremendously clean and refreshing beer. I love the art work on the bottle as well. It depicts a troubled looking ram that I just adore.

Well, your review certainly makes me want to hunt this one down. I’ll be on the look out. (Like the home brewing videos too.) Thanks.
