Dogfish Head – Midas Touch 2006
Dogfish Head
2006 Midas Touch Golden Elixir
9% abv
Poured from a 12 ounce bottle into a room temperature new Sam Adams beer glass.
Appearance
This beer is a orange-tinted golden color with very little carbonation or head. Hues from the saffron are also quite apparent.
Aroma
Rich and ripe papaya and sweet honey with a malty background.
Taste
Very complex taste with a good level of sweetness. This beer is considerably lighter than most Dogfish beers but is perfectly balanced with a noticeable aftertaste.
Mouthfeel
A little cidery from the aging but very sticky and warm. Also, not much carbonation due to the two years of cellaring.
Overall
My good friend Dan was fortunate enough to visit the Rehoboth Beach brewpub and snagged a pair of 2006 bottles for me. I have to admit that they were awesome. This beer is very wine-like and reminds me of some well-known Belgium beers that I have sampled. The honey flavor found in this beer is beautifully balanced by the slight bitterness from the hops. I can’t wait to compare with a new bottle of Midas when I make my trip to Rehoboth later this spring.

This sounds it tastes a lot like Abita’s Andy-gator. Which will get you drunk.
