Review – Dogfish Head Immort Ale
Dogfish Head Immort Ale
11% abv
Poured from a 12 ounce bottle into a chilled pint glass.
Appearance
Shades of brown with red and yellow tints. Not much head on this beer, resulting in very little lacing on the glass. This beer is very clear, letting good amounts of light through.
Aroma
First, I smelled the oak and toasted maple woody characteristics. Then my nose found some fruity cherries or berries and some citrus notes.
Taste
Very complex flavors going on. I tasted the vanilla and an abundance of ripe fruit. This was followed by the sweetness from the malty foundation and the maple syrup.
Mouthfeel
This beer is very chewy with only mediocre carbonation. My mouth felt a bit dry from the alcohol burn.
Overall
The verdict is still out on the ‘ol “Immortal” as some call it. I have only sampled one bottle from the two four-packs I purchased and my thoughts were inconclusive. On one hand, I liked the complex flavors going on and the high alcohol content but something turned me off in a way too. I know that I have to try this brew again to truly know how I feel but I wanted to write down my gut instincts as this is the first time I have ever tried this concoction.
