Review – Dogfish Head Aprihop
Dogfish Head Aprihop 7% abv
Poured from a 12 ounce bottle into a chilled pint glass.
Appearance
Rich orange amber glowing with vibrant reds and yellows. This beer was very translucent and on top sat about an inch of thick, creamy white foam. This foam left some really nice lace effects as I drank.
Aroma
Immediately upon opening I smelled the piney notes from the hops. I thought I would smell some of the apricots but they are tucked gently behind the other smells.
Taste
This beer is very smooth and the again, the apricots are very difficult to detect. It has a sweet and sugary taste followed by a bitter and hoppy aftertaste.
Mouthfeel
There is a nice sensation from the alcohol in this beer. It left a good fizzy sensation in my mouth with that enjoyable burn on the tongue. Because it was so fresh, there was also excellent carbonation.
Overall
I feel that you really have to drink more than one of these beers to truly get the taste of the apricots. I cannot figure out why but my second glass of this showcased the sweet fruit much better than my first pint. For a seasonal beer, I was lucky enough to find a case down in Delaware (half hour from my house) the day it arrived from Dogfish Head. The store received 57 cases and due to their extensive variety of micro brews, quickly became my favorite beer store around.
