Review – Brooklyn Pennant Ale 55
From Brooklyn Brewery – …Brooklyn Pennant Pale Ale ’55 is a classic English pale ale, brewed with the prized Maris Otter Malt and Fuggles, Willamette and Cascade hops. Maris Otter is an old malt variety that yields an incomparable biscuity flavor. Pennant is chesnut-colored, medium in body with a hearty malt palate and smooth hop finish. This beer is a tribute to Brooklyn’s world champion baseball team.
Brooklyn Brewery – Brooklyn Pennant Ale ’55 Purchased as part of a sample 12 pack from Dawson’s Liquors in Severna Park, MD. 5.0% abv.
Appearance: Copper with a thin head and little lacing.
Aroma: Dried apricots and fall foliage.
Taste: There’s no mistaking the English style in this ale (not much pine or citrus found in California styles). Very clean with a little earthiness to it. No particular fruit or bread-like flavors are present, it just tastes “beer-like.”
Mouthfeel: It has good body but finishes clean with just enough bitterness at the back of the throat.
Drinkability: At 5%, you can pound these all night long if you really enjoy English-style ales. I prefer IPAs, but this was a nice diversion.
My only complaint is that the 12 pack came with four of these and four lagers, but only two each of the brown ales and IPAs (which I preferred over the other two) instead of three of each.
