Review – Blue Dawg Wild Blue Blueberry Ale
Wild Blue Blueberry Ale, 12oz Bottle, 8% abv! Brewed by Blue Dawg Brewing (which from what i hear is a “shell brewery” operating under A-B! what a surprise indeed)
Poured From 12oz bottle to Pint Glass..
Appearance: A very inviting, sort of “chill hazed” purple. With a minimal head and lacing. VERY different from all the Pales and IPA’s I’m used to..lol
Aroma: VERY fruity, heavy blueberry with ever so slightly lingering malt aromas. Its actually very inviting! You would never know this was an 8%’er…
Flavor: SUPER intense blueberry taste that masks the 8% ABV! I love blueberries! Having picked them as a kid in upper Michigan, every sip brings back memories of those times! (amazing how taste is able to “conjure” memories of days past) You will either LOVE this beer or HATE it. That’s all there is to it. Not for everybody.
Mouthfeel: Now, when you smell this beer, you would think that it would stick to your mouth like flypaper. Its actually very light, and somewhat dry. Not at all too sticky or heavy. Very surprising indeed. Also had a fair amount of effervescence, almost like a sparkling cider, but not so intense that it feels like its “tickling” your mouth.
Overall: Lemme get one thing straight here. I AM A HOP HEAD. Through and Through. I used to think that fruity beers were, well, drunk by fruity people..haha.. My man at my local beer spot recommended this to me. Clearly knowing what a “hop head” i am, his various suggestions to me on brews other than Pales/IPAs has been money, and he’s never steered me wrong, which is why I never hesitated with this one. Very drinkable beer indeed. This one is sure to stir up some controversy…
