Review – Baltika No. 6 Porter
Baltika No. 6 Porter, 7% abv, Baltika Brewery, St. Petersburg Russia..
Poured from 22oz Bottle to Pint Glass…
Aroma: SUUUPER sweet. Smelling of Molasses with hints of coffee/chocolate, malt, and that slight “burns the furs of your nose” alcohol aroma.(slight mind you)
Appearance: BLACK. Seriously. This stuff was like, lights out, its dark in this cave kinda black. Had a very inviting “cappuccino” colored head(sort of tan/off-white) with little/to fair retention and great lacing throughout.
Flavor: DAAAAAAAMN..This s*** is heavy!!! I mean, like 10w30 heavy! Full bodied, with a fair amount of effervescence. Surprisingly VERY, VERY smooth. Very rich and almost “syrupy” but not in a gross way. Lots of sweetness here due to the carmel malt and maltose syrup(i think). With that nice “warmth in the mouth” from the alcohol. Roasted coffee notes with hints of bitter chocolate.
Mouthfeel: Creamy and thick with a slight amount of fizz
Overall: This is definitely a Porterman’s PORTER. I enjoyed this a lot. Would buy this again. It was actually quite a steal at less than $3 a bottle! Highly recommended for all you Porterheads out there. Although I prefer a little bit of a “lighter” porter that is not as sweet and a little more hoppy (hop head till i die!! LOL) This happened to be a very welcoming change. I guess the “motherland” can make good beverages besides vodka.
