Review – Alesmith Wee Heavy
From Alesmith: A classic Scotch Ale. Scotch ales are typically sweet and malty, with a very subdued dose of hops– just enough to provide balance. AleSmith Wee Heavy is a wonderful interpretation of this traditional Scotch style. ABV 10%
Appearance: Pours like black coffee and starts with a tan 1/2 inch head. A creamy ring of suds stays at the top after the head subsides.
Aroma: Raisins, chocolate, plum, and dark roasted malt.
Taste: Raisins, cocoa powder, dark chocolate, a good amount of spicy hops, coffee, coca cola and booze. Also reminds me a little bit of Black Forrest cake.
Mouthfeel: Chewy and thick, and very smooth.
Overall: A fantastically complex beer that only gets better as it warms up. A great use of roasted malts and spicy bitter hops. I dare anyone to try this beer and find fault in it. Not sure it can be done.
