New Glarus R & D Golden Ale
From New Glarus – Bold floral bouquet sweeps forward, encouraged by the Maris Otter Malt. Ale and Brettanomyces promote complex Brett characters. Dry finish. Alive and still fermenting, this bottle will continue to build carbonation. Pour with care.
New Glarus Brewing – New Glarus R&D Golden Ale – 500 ml.bottle poured into a goblet. 7% abv.
Appearance: Pours an amber gold with a fluffy white head.
Aroma: Lemony, bretty diapery funkidy funk. Fresh baby poop, baby wipes and barnyard.
Taste: Pale malt, lemon zest, mineral/metal brett yeast, spicy hops.
Mouthfeel: Prickly spicy on the tong. Full bodied.
Overall: Real funky, refreshing, lively and enjoyable. I know the words I might have used are a turn off, but my crazy nose gets weird stuff with brett. Dare I say this is BETTER than Orval?

Will be back in Wisconsin in about ten days. My home town is only about a half hour from New Glarus and I haven’t been to the brewery since I’ve been a beer drinker. Excited to check out the R&D stuff, along with their new Black Top IPA, Chocolate Abbey and IIPA. Currently have three Wisconsin Belgian Reds and a Raspberry Tart in my fridge, haha.
