New Belgium / Perennial – Salted Belgian Chocolate Stout
From New Belgium – This collaboration with Perennial Artisan Ales pairs two favorites: chocolate and beer. Dessert is best poured. And the brewers at Perennial agree. So for our next Lips of Faith release we dreamt up a beer that would bring together chocolate sweetness, Belgian yeast, deeply roasted malts and just the right shake of salt to pour a creamy stout worthy of a cherry on top.
New Belgium Brewing – New Belgium / Perennial Lips of Faith – Salted Belgian Chocolate Stout
Appearance: Pours black with a lasting rocky top layer of tan suds.
Aroma: Caramelized dark fruit, semi sweet chocolate, dark rum.
Taste: Dark chocolate, dark fruit, toasty malt, roasted walnut. Low hop presence.
Mouthfeel: Silky. Full bodied.
Overall: New Belgium has done many experimental recipes and collaborations with the Lips of Faith series. While some have sounded great on paper, a handful have been a let down for this palate. This beer right here knocked my socks off and shattered my expectations. This is a near perfect beer. Hopefully with or without Perennial, New Belgium puts this beer into yearly rotation, it is that good.
