Modern Times Oneida
From Modern Times Beer – Oneida is all about the hops, which in this case are Hallertau Blanc, Cascade, and Experimental Hop 05256. Hallertau Blanc is a new German variety that is very fruity/white wine grapey; it’s the German growers’ attempt at a Nelson-like hop. They largely succeeded, but it doesn’t have the dank bass note that Nelson does, which is why we added the Experimental Hop 05256 (it’s like a fruitier Simcoe). The grapefruit character of Cascade blends with the light fruitiness of the Hallertau Blanc and adds a slightly resinous charge, turning the whole thing into a delicious fruit/hop orgy.

Appearance: Pours a cloudy yellow gold with a soap sudsy white cap.
Aroma: White grapes, clementine. Lemonheads.
Taste: Nelson like grapey hop, pale malt. Finishes quickly with earthy hop.
Mouthfeel: Medium bodied average carbonation.
Overall: This was a very gently made hoppy ale. While I’m glad it wasn’t like every other Nelson-ish beer I’ve had in the last year, it kind of left me wanting a bit more of everything: more nose, more malt body and a tad more bite. I am aware it’s a Pale Ale and not an IPA. Will try the next batch for sure. Solid, drinkable none the less.

More malt????? That would be a San Diego sin. Best Pale Ale on the market in my opinion.
