Modern Times Golden Pineapple IPA
Product description: Prepare your mouth for a riveting journey of tropical delights. We brewed this stellar IPA with barley, wheat, and oats alongside a palate-detonating amalgamation of Citra, Motueka, Mosaic, and Centennial hops. We fermented this magnificent assortment of ingredients with Sacc Trois for a monumentally juicy mouth-full of guava, mango and papaya that translates from taste-buds to brain as pure joy.
Modern Times Beer – Modern Times Golden Pineapple IPA – 16 oz. can poured into specialty glassware 7.2% abv.
Golden Pineapple marks the latest iteration of Modern Times’ specialty hazy IPA series in cans available at the brewery only. Sampling this on tap at the brewery, our group found this to be fairly neutral in flavor and aroma while also drinkable and soft-bodied.
From 16oz cans, this beer is more impressive in my opinion. (Graphic design continues to impress.) Translucent, hazy orange in color with rocky, persistent foam, Golden Pineapple starts off with obvious pineapple juice in the aroma, but it is eventually taken over by thick, ripe mango. The flavor is where Golden Pineapple dominates. As far as beers go, Golden Pineapple hits the mark for that sought-after tropical juice flavor. Thick mango and banana smoothie flavors combine to hit this one out of the park. Small sugariness is appreciated – allowing these flavors to pop. Its salty, buoyant body is endlessly drinkable and quenching. The palate is ultra-soft and the most impressive part of the experience. All the while, bitterness is very low, placing this more in just the Blonde Ale or Fruit Beer category. But no complaints there.
Overall, though this one is a bit low in bitterness for an IPA, the resulting mango and pineapple juice character is spot-on. Freshness and overall shape of the beer have benefited from Modern Times taking control over the distribution process, i.e. you won’t find this one in stores. Please make it again is all I can say.
