Mikkeller Monk’s Brew (Bourbon Barrel)
From Dan – The Full Pint was at this past Stone Oakquinox at Stone Brewing World Bistro and Gardens this past spring, and we were able to try many Mikkeller beers that have been either hard to find our too cost prohibitive. If you don’t know where to begin with trying Mikkeller beers, we suggest to go to festivals like these or find a tasting group to figure out which one of their beers you like before buying some or all. Cheers!
Mikkeller – Mikkeller Monk’s Brew Aged in Bourbon Bourbon Barrels – 12 oz. bottle poured into a goblet. 10% abv.
Appearance: Pours a murky tea brown. Frothy tan film.
Aroma: Bourbon , toffee, dried dark fruit. Maple sugar.
Taste: Bourbon, sweet cereal, baking cocoa, woody finish. Lingers.
Mouthfeel: A bit astringent. Active, creamy carbonation.
Overall: Pretty complex and tasty, and I enjoyed this far more with the added treatment of bourbon barrels.
