Midnight Sun The New Black
From Midnight Sun – A Belgian Black Bier (lager) aged in oak barrels with black currants and Brettanomyces. It is very wine-like. It’s smooth yet complex if that makes any sense. It is crazy good with layers of incredible flavors.
Midnight Sun Brewing – Midnight Sun The New Black – 22 oz. bottle poured into a goblet. 8.4% abv.
Appearance: Pours a midnight brown with a creamy 1/4 inch tan cap.
Aroma: Lactic acid. Musty sour dank, wine barrel, basement and pencil. I know those are just descriptors, but that’s what came flying into my nose.
Taste: Wine barrel, tartness. Funky earthy yeast, currant, faint burnt roast.
Mouthfeel: Creamy with average carbonation.
Overall: An amazing complex treat that took me a while to figure out.
