Stone Brewing Co. – Lukcy Basartd Ale (Not to be confused with Lucky Bastard Ale) – On tap at 38 Degrees Alhambra (The Most Arrogant Bar in America?) – Served in a pint glass 8.5% abv.
Appearance: Pours a deep fairly translucent dark red. Atop sits a dense, creamy cap, that retains for most of the session.
Aroma: Big herbal hop and spicy sweet malt.
Taste: Bitter, aggressive hops, sugary spicy malt, and alcohol. Very fresh and abrasive.
Mouthfeel: Full bodied, not quite as thick as Double Bastard Ale. Sticky with prickly carbonation.
Overall: A really big, fresh bitter as fukc beer. The art of this beer is in the blending. It seems blended so well, it really takes a while to distinguish it from it’s fresh component beers. It’s hard to tell based on available information if it’s even a real blend or not.* So I will correct myself if I am wrong.
To sum it up, if you like Arrogant Bastard Ale, Double Bastard Ale and or OAKED Arrogant Bastard, you will like this. With that said, this isn’t far off the beaten path of either Arrogant or Double Bastard Ale, so know that going in. It’s a fun idea that I’d love to see more of from Stone.
* According to Stone – Lukcy Basartd Ale is a 50/50 blend of Arrogant Bastard Ale and Double Bastard Ale. The blend is then oaked and double dry-hopped.

And…it’s 8.5% abv, not 9.2%. Where did that come from?

The Most Arrogant Bar in America is currenlty held by Tilted Kilt in Charlotte, NC. Just to clarify.

Spoke with Stone president and brewmaster, Steve Wagner, this last Friday at an event in Seattle, WA. He confirmed that there is no Oaked version in the blend. He did confirm regular and double AB are in the mix…FWIW
