Lagunitas We’re Only In it For the Money
Lagunitas is back with another beer commemorating the late Frank Zappa. The fourth installation is ‘We’re Only In it For the Money.’ This is a Belgian Style Tripple, and touts the album cover on the front of the bottle. I have had Kill Ugly Radio and Lumpy Gravy, and have not been disappointed yet. Come to think of it, I haven’t been disappointed by anything Lagunitas has done.
Lagunitas Brewing Co. We’re Only In it for the Money – 22 oz bottle poured into a New Belgium beer glass. 8.2% abv.
Appearance: A reddish gold with a nice white stripe for head. Mildly carbonated and cloudy.
Aroma: Flowers, women’s scented lotion and cantaloupe.
Taste: Bitter fruit and fresh ground pepper at the beginning. Mild hop bitterness and savory malt spiciness in the finish. In some sips, I found hints of mango and pineapple. The fruit flavors weren’t very pronounced.
Mouthfeel: This beer is rather dry, but not too puckering. The only taste that lingers, believe it or not, is the mild hop flavor in the end.
Overall: This didn’t jump out at me as the most unique Belgian Tripel, but it definitely held its own in the category. Hats off to Lagunitas for trying another Belgian after mixed reviews on the Farmhouse Saison.
