Lagunitas Imperial Red Ale
From Lagunitas Brewing – Big on the spicy, skunky hops, bigger on the rich red malt. A variation of our original 1993 “Lagunitas Red”. Still in the handy 6-pack carriers for your enjoyment.
Lagunitas Brewing – Imperial Red Ale – 12 oz. bottle poured into a pint glass. 7.8% abv. Found where Lagunitas beers are sold!
Appearance: Pours a dark red with a head that subsides to nothing.
Aroma: Faint toasty caramel malts. Ever so slight Amarillo dry hopping.
Taste: Roasted malt and caramel sweetness finished grapefruity and bitter hopping.
Mouthfeel: Medium bodied.
Overall: While I was hoping for a larger aroma, the beer didn’t lack in the flavor department. It’s close to Green Flash’s Hop Head Red, minus the danky aroma. I would give this one the nod for balance.

I had a side by side last night with Lagunitas and Green Flash red ales. You’re right on the money. I think Lagunitas red is a slightly better beer.
