Ken Schmidt / Iron Fist / Stone Mint Chocolate Imperial Stout
From Stone Brewing – “…Ken came back with yet another winning combination that he called “Pillow Mint at the Ritz.” After taking the champion title for the second time, he worked with our illustrious brewmaster Mitch Steele to select Brandon Sieminski of nearby Iron Fist Brewing as our third partner in crime to help scale this awesome recipe up for our big 120bbl system. The result? A decadently rich, decidedly bold, and oh-so-delicious libation we call Ken Schmidt / Iron Fist / Stone Mint Chocolate Imperial Stout.”
Stone Brewing Co. – Ken Schmidt / Iron Fist / Stone Mint Chocolate Imperial Stout – 12 oz. bottle poured into a gobet. 9.6% abv. Purchased at Certified Market Monrovia, CA
Appearance: Pours a dark brown with tan head that subsides to mere swirls atop.
Aroma: Huge fresh mint, mint Cliff bar, chocolate cereal.
Taste: Mint, dark chocolate, sasafras, roasted malt, chocolate cereal. Spicy hops. Pleasantly bitter.
Mouthfeel: Medium bodied. Creamy carbonation.
Overall: Very tasty, extra drinkable for being a 9.6% Imperial Stout. I couldn’t quite nail down what I was getting from the nose, but it’s interesting. I would also say to those who quickly say “It’s a York Peppermint Patty” that they should dig deeper. Next time I have a Peppermint Patty, I’m going to proclaim IT’s like a Ken Schmidt Classic!
