Karl Strauss Pintail Pale Ale
From Karl Strauss – Pintail is a classic American Pale Ale, loaded with pine and citrus flavors from a blend of Newport and Cascade hops. After fermentation, Pintail is dry-hopped with a pound of Amarillo hops per barrel, for a distinct grapefruit aroma and flavor. The vibrant hoppiness of the beer is balanced by a blend of Carapils and caramel malts, creating a firm backbone to support the lingering, dry finish.
Karl Strauss Brewing – Pintail Pale Ale – 12 oz. bottle poured into a pint glass. 5.3% abv.
Appearance: Pours a clear amber orange with a retaining thin cap of head.
Aroma: A nice hoppy aroma featuring herbal and citrus notes.
Taste: Bitterness, citrus, and a bite of salty caramel.
Mouthfeel: Medium bodied, slightly juicy and moderate carbonation.
Overall: A very solid APA that I think most would enjoy. It isn’t as crisp as most California Pale Ales, but the malt backbone will make this much more approachable to folks who don’t care for a Sierra Nevada type of APA.
