Karl Strauss Parrot in a Palm Tree
From Karl Strauss – In San Diego, we’re not known for our partridges or pears but we can all relate to those noisy parrots and their relentless “caroling”. Parrot in a Palm Tree is a robust Baltic Porter brewed especially for the Holidays. Aged two months in San Pasqual Tawny Port barrels, the resulting brew isn’t for the birds.
Karl Strauss Brewing – Karl Strauss Parrot in a Palm Tree – 22 oz. bottle poured into a goblet. 8.5% abv.
Appearance: Pours a dark brown with a tan dense creamy 1 inch head.
Aroma: Chocolate covered shortbread cookies, cherry cordials and hazelnut.
Taste: Dark chocolate, roast, coffee, tart cherry, black forest cake, slight spicy hop. Slight barrel note in the finish.
Mouthfeel: Creamy rich mouthfeel with moderate carbonation.
Overall: Balanced, complex dessert beer. I don’t think this one will age well past a year mark, and it’s really in prime drinking shape now.
