Great Lakes Barrel-Aged Blackout Stout
From Great Lakes Brewing – Our hearty, bold Imperial Stout is named after the infamous “Blackout of 2003” that left the northeastern United States in complete darkness, but resulted in old-fashioned neighborhood porch parties and down-home fun. This beer is traditionally brewed from all natural ingredient:barley, hops, yeast and water. No chemicals or preservatives are used.
Great Lakes Brewing – Barrel-Aged Blackout Stout – 22 oz. bottle poured into a goblet. 9% abv. From Ray in MA!
Appearance: Poured a midnight brown with no head.
Aroma: Coffee, roast, vanilla and toffee.
Taste: Oak, bourbon, roast and chocolate.
Mouthfeel: Full bodied, but no syrupy.
Overall: Slightly more interesting that regular Blackout, but not a mind blowing barrel aged beer for me. I think that is due to how balanced it is, versus the big wood or bourbon bomb my palate has gotten used to. I think I need another shot at this beer to know for sure.
