Great Divide Grand Cru
From Great Divide – Grand Cru is our very special Belgian-style dark ale. Imported malts give it a round malty richness, and the fruity complexity and slightly spicy character come from brewing with a proprietary Belgian yeast strain. Don’t let the name fool you; while it may be a special occasion beer, this medium-bodied, elegant incarnation is anything but snobbish.
Great Divide Brewing – Great Divide Grand Cru – 22 oz. bottle poured into goblet. 11% abv. Purchased at Certified Market, Monrovia, CA.
Appearance: Pours a deep dark reddish brown with a creamy head that subsides quickly.
Aroma: Raisin, prune, soy sauce, fruity Belgian Unibroue like yeast.
Taste: Raisin, dark candi sugar, burnt sugar, bread crust. Finishes with cola syrup.
Mouthfeel: Syrupy with calm carbonation.
Overall: A really big beer, might be served well with a big cigar (bold, not novelty). Possibly might get better with a year or two on it.
