Founders Kentucky Breakfast Stout
From Founders – What we’ve got here is an imperial stout brewed with a massive amount of coffee and chocolates then cave-aged in oak bourbon barrels for an entire year, to make sure wonderful bourbon undertones come through in the finish. Make your taste buds squeal with delight.
Founders Brewing – Kentucky Breakfast Stout aka Founders KBS – 12 oz. bottle poured into a goblet. 11.2% abv. From Online Trade.
Appearance: Pours a viscous dark brown with no head.
Aroma: Spent coffee grinds, cold black coffee, a layer of booze and roasted malt.
Taste: Black coffee, burnt office coffee and nice sweet bourbon notes.
Mouthfeel: Slick, medium bodied.
Overall: Not enough bourbon and too much stale coffee. I love stout, I love coffee and I love bourbon but this didn’t jive very well for me.

Came across this review as I was reading up on KBS after finishing my first bottle. Thankfully, I see that I’m not alone in my opinion.
Maybe it was because I allowed the hype train to build KBS up to a level that no beer could possibly live up to, but I was underwhelmed as well. That’s not to say it wasn’t a good beer – it certainly is. But I would easily place offerings from Goose Island, Cigar City, etc above it.

I couldn’t tell from the bottle, but IT COULD have been from last years batch. And I do like regular Breakfast Stout from Founders.
