Dogfish Head Punkin Ale
Dogfish Head Punkin Ale 7% abv – Poured from a 12 ounce bottle into a chilled pint glass.
Appearance
This brown ale has hints of rust and orange colors throughout. Semi transparent with moderate off-white head that sits an inch on top.
Aroma
Thanksgiving dinner. Of course, it smells of sweet fall pumpkins but is balanced with cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, cloves and the like.
Taste
Quite malty and a little sweet. This beer’s flavor does not let you down after the amazing aromas. It is medium-bodied but full of outstanding flavors.
Mouthfeel
A little sticky but smooth and carbonated. I am sure it helps that the bottles were just filled less than a week before I drank them.
Overall
This is one of my favorite times of year when all the brewers release their fall line of brews. Lot of Octoberfest styles and fall influenced beers made from root vegetables and spices. This beer is at the top of my list right under Sam Adam’s Octoberfest and I was able to pick up a 4-pack the other day before it even went on sale (hint: it helps to talk regularly with your beer store guy). I am actually going to make a batch of this beer via Sam’s homebrew recipe in one of his books. I can’t wait to try it because it is such a unique recipe.
