Deschutes Hop In The Dark CDA
From Deschutes Brewery – “We’ve brewed 22 batches of this beer at both our Bend and Portland pubs, experimenting on our customers as we perfected the recipe,” said Brewmaster Larry Sidor. “This beer has subtle coffee undertones born from a blend of oats with dark, Munich and crystal malts. Classic IPA flavors and aromas are due to courageous additions of Cascade, Citra and Centennial hops.”
Deschutes Brewery – Hop In the Dark Cascadian Dark Ale (CDA) – 22 oz. bottle poured into a goblet. 6.5% abv.
Appearance: Pours black with a 1/4 inch white head that subsides to a mere gathering of film.
Aroma: A mixture of citrus notes and fresh herbs. Slight roast notes, but very faint.
Taste: Bitter herbal hops, dry roast and slight grapefruit.
Mouthfeel: Thin and coating.
Overall: A black IPA I really like, something that could stand tall next to Stone Sublimely Self Righteous Ale, my personal favorite Black IPA/Cascadian Dark Ale/Hoppy Dark Ale.
