Dark Horse Perkulator Coffee Doppelbock
From Dark Horse Brewing – This is a true dopplebock and Dark Horse Brewing’s only publicly distributed lager. It was so normal that we couldn’t stand it so we made it into a coffee dopplebock. Ha, take that Germany, with your Reinheitsgebot purity law! Anyway, we use fare trade organic coffee from our friends at The Ugly Mug Cafe in Ypsilanti, MI
Dark Horse Brewing – Perkulator Coffee Doppelbock – 12 oz. bottle poured into a pint glass. 7.5% abv. (Editor’s Note – This isn’t the label that was on my bottle, but is one of two labels you can get for this beer)
Appearance: Pours a dark auburn red with no head. A small amount of light can pass through, and with it you can see rising bubbles.
Aroma: Spent coffee grinds and roasted malt.
Taste: Strong black diner coffee, bread crust, pumpernickel, and slightly sour cherry. The coffee flavor lingers well past the sip, and it’s pretty much all you taste for the rest of the beer.
Mouthfeel: Full and thick.
Overall: I didn’t care for the mix of coffee and doppelbock.
