Shmaltz Brewing – Coney Island Human Blockhead – 12 oz. pour on tap at Verdugo Bar in Los Angeles, CA. 10% abv.
Appearance: While in a darkly lit Verdugo bar, I used much trickery to get an accurate appearance, using candles, cell phone flashlight apps, etc. Anyway, this pours an amber with a film of white subsiding suds. Am I a blockhead for trying to review this beer in the dark? =-)
Aroma: Caramel and medium toast.
Taste: Caramel, burnt toast, and a boozy twang up front. After the sweetness and alcohol, you get a modest hop bitterness in the finish.
Mouthfeel: Thick with medium carbonation.
Overall: This is a big, sweet, malty lager. Almost a sophisticated Malt Liquor or an Imperial Pilsner.
