Avery The Czar – Batch 2007
From Avery Brewing – Behold the stunning crimson hues through the inky blackness. Inhale the noble Hallertau hops, spicy and floral. Savor the flavors redolent of English toffee, rich mocha, sweet molasses, candied currants and a hint of anise. We highly recommend cellaring additional bottles, as the Czar will continue to mature and become denser and more complex with age.
Avery Brewing Co. – The Czar, Bottled 2007 Reviewed August 2009 – 22 oz. bottle poured into a goblet. 11.73 abv. Purchased at Whole Foods Market on National in Los Angeles, CA.
Appearance: Pours a midnight brown with a small gathering of tan froth.
Aroma: Burnt malt, fresh milk, dark chocolate covered raisins, and dark currants.
Taste: An over whelming mouthful of semi sweet chocolate chips starts this out. Upon a further investigation, the are burnt and chocolate malts, minute amounts spicy hops. Has a burnt roasty finish.
Mouthfeel: Silky like pudding.
Overall: I didn’t like that beer last year, but it has melded into a really enjoyable dessert Russian Imperial Stout.
