Avery Black Tot
From Avery – “Swabbies, what could be better than your daily rats ‘o thick, chewy and robust Imperial Oatmeal Stout? What say you, matey’s? Aye, throw it in yer beloved empty rum barrels for aging! To our sweethearts and wives, may they never meet! Huzzah!”
Avery Brewing – Avery Black Tot- Barrel Aged Imperial Oatmeal Stout – No. 3 of The Barrel Aged Series – 12 oz. bottle poured into a goblet. 10% abv. Traded from friend in CO.
Appearance: Pours a midnight brown with a layer of tan froth atop.
Aroma: Warm booze, bourbon or spiced Bacardi, and molasses. I couldn’t find any roast at all.
Taste: A shot of booze with a roasty silky imperial stout on the side. Big charred barrel notes. Unlike in the aroma, the sweet bourbon notes don’t carry over. Finishes burnt and bitter.
Mouthfeel: Silky and astringent. The oatmeal really gave it a super silky texture.
Overall: This beer needs more time to mature. Tons of potential, but too harsh for me right now.

It’s infected and gone bad, from what I understand. If I’m mistaken, I apologize, but maybe that’s why it was harsh for you. More time will probably make it even worse.
