Alaskan Smoked Porter 2006 (Three Years Later)
Alaskan Brewing – Alaskan Smoked Porter, Vintage 2006 – Reviewed in Summer 2009. 22 oz. bottle poured into a goblet. 6.5% abv.
Appearance: Pours a very dark brown with an oily layer of swirls at the top.
Aroma: Smoked wood and smoked meat, beef jerkey, and rubber tires.
Taste: Strong wood notes to start off, liquid smoke, ham. After getting through the smokey woods so to speak, I find roasted malts with a spicy hop finish.
Mouthfeel: Thick and fizzy.
Overall: I thought the smoke would be subdued after time has passed. This seems far more smokey than the 2007 and 2008 batch when it was fresh. I do remember 2006 being a real smokey beer, and I am glad it stayed that way.
