Yards Brewing Wins Big At WIP’s Beer Brawl
Philadelphia, PA – Yards Brewing Company’s Philadelphia Pale Ale and Saison both earned bragging rights and top honors at WIP’s Beer Brawl 2011.
Philadelphia Pale Ale won two titles – Best Light Bodied Beer and Listener’s Choice. Saison stole the show in the Seasonal/Specialty category and scored higher than any other beer across all categories. Yards beat out beers from Flying Fish, Dock Street, Nodding Head, Victory and Weyerbacher to earn the honors.
Tom Kehoe, Founder & President of Yards Brewing Company, spoke of the victories. “We went up against some great beers and some great friends. We’re excited to come out on top. We want to thank all the people who love our beer and support our brewery. Clearly, we wouldn’t be here without them.” Nodding Head Grog won the other top honor of the night, being chosen best full-bodied beer by the panel.
Rick Kocher of Limerick, a member of the Bruclear Homebrewers Club, was awarded a trophy as the winner of the homebrewing segment of the event.
WIP’s Beer Brawl was held at Chickie’s and Pete’s in South Philadelphia on Thursday, August 4. The Brawl was hosted by Glen Macnow, Anthony Gargano and Johnny “Carwash” DellaPolla (Kennett Restaurant), with judges including “Joe Sixpack” aka Don Russell, former Temple basketball coach John Chaney, Comcast Sportsnet’s Leslie Gudel, former Phillie Ricky Bottalico, former Eagle Brian Mitchell and Tom Burgoyne “the Phillie Phanactics best friend.”
