Victory Expands Barrel Aging Program
From Victory’s latest blog – As we’ve been coming closer and closer to reaching capacity here at Victory, we’ve had to make some hard decisions about what beers to brew and which to ditch as tank space gets tight. It’s Victory’s somewhat less-dramatic Sophie’s Choice — which of our children win our attention?
What are we doing with the barrels? Playing, of course!
We bribed our brewers to put in extra hours and brew up some batches of Baltic Thunder, Old Horizontal and Golden Monkey in order to test what the various barrels might do to the flavors we know and love. So get ready to find out.
On November 21, on a day we are calling “Red Wednesday” (sound familiar?) we will be releasing Red Thunder. Red Thunder is Baltic Thunder, aged for three months in once-used red wine barrels. The result: a creamy, cocoa-y, tannic treat.
Then, just in time for our 17th anniversary, we expect our magical, mystical monkey to have taken nicely to a 3-month nap in white wine barrels. Expect White Monkey to make its appearance on shelves mid-February.
In the coming weeks and months, we’ll share even more information about these beers. Stay tuned to our blog, subscribe to our newsletter and follow us on Facebook and Twitter to be sure you get all of the details.
Next week, we’ll be sharing details about Red Wednesday and how you can secure your bottle of Red Thunder.
And, as always, we welcome your questions about these projects. We’ll be sure to answer them here or in upcoming posts about these brews.
A month later, the Old Horizontal that we have been aging in once-used bourbon barrels will emerge as Oak Horizontal. The official release date is TBD, but we are promising that you’ll have some Ho for the holidays.
