Upland Brewing Releases Haystack Lightning American Wheat, 2nd Side Trail Series Beer
(Bloomington,IN)- Upland Brewing Company announced today Haystack Lightning American Wheat, the second beer in the brewers’ choice Side Trail Series, will be ready for draft release the first week of April. This draft-only Americanized version of Upland’s flagship Belgian Wheat Ale will be on tap at all Upland locations on Friday April 4th and at select bars and restaurants across Indiana, Ohio, Wisconsin, and Chicago in the following weeks.
While inspired by Upland Wheat Ale, Haystack Lightning forges its own identity with American yeast and citrusy hops that set it apart from its cloudy, spiced muse. The beer features Caracrystal Wheat Malt, Amarillo Whole Leaf hops, and is dry hopped with Amarillo and Columbus. Filtered to a brilliant clarity, the result is a clean, medium-bodied beer with a mild caramel sweetness. Haystack Lightning maintains the light, refreshing citrus qualities of Upland Wheat, but adds more hop character and a distinct grainy flavor.

Brewery: Upland Brewing Company, Bloomington, Indiana
About the Brewery: Upland Brewing Company has been brewing Ales and Lagers in Bloomington, IN since 1998, making beer in a time-honored fashion that puts their care and dedication to the craft on full display. That’s intentionally simple- but hard to pull off. Above all, they make beer that’s true: to its heritage, to its ingredients, to itself.
The name Upland refers to the landscape of Southern Indiana, where the brewery is located. The Norman and Crawford Uplands are the heavily wooded hills and hollows that were never overrun by the glaciers that flattened much of Indiana’s landscape. The Uplands are beautiful, and they bred independent thinkers and artisans, with a strong connection to their land and their community. Indiana University adds a progressive, tolerant, intellectual aspect to the town. The result is a heady mix of cultures and contradictions: a place where everyone can feel at home. A place that is equally respectful of tradition and open to change. Upland’s beer is representative of this place.
