Terrapin Side Project 19: Mosaic – A Single Hop in Three Dimensions
Now arriving on shelves is Mosaic, Terrapin’s 19th volume in their Side Project series of one-time brews. This beer pays homage in both name and hop bill to Mosaic™, one of the newest hop offerings from Hop Union, LLC. The hop Mosaic™, which was previously known as HBC 369, promises to offer a bitterness and aroma profile never before accomplished with other hop varieties.
Why Mosaic™? Terrapin brewmaster Brian “Spike” Buckowski chose the hop because, as the creative and experimental brewer that he is, he wanted to be one of the first to craft a brew featuring this newcomer to the hop roster (“Thanks, Hop Union!”, says Spike). With only a smattering of other beers using Mosaic™ available as of today, Spike knew he could create a truly unique beer while also turning the craft beer world’s attention towards Hop Union’s newest hop. He also knew that Mosaic’s™ flavor and aroma characteristics would complement the use of his signature grain– malted rye. Much as an artist carefully arranges his chosen tesserae to form a unified mosaic, Spike utilizes a two-dimensional list of grains and hops and transforms it into a three-dimensional tasting experience with this Single-hopped Red Rye Ale.
Malts: 2-row Pale, Munich, Rye, Crystal 45, Crystal 65, Crystal 85
Hops: 100% Mosaic™
OG: 15
ABV: 6.6%
IBU: 60
Along with a complex flavor profile, this beer comes to life with a 3D label! Chris Pinkerton specifically designed Mosaic’s label with 3D viewing in mind. Using a pair of ChromaDepth 3D glasses, the two-dimensional label artwork is transformed into a mosaic of color and depth! ChromaDepth is a patented system that creates a stereoscopic effect using the ROYGBV visible light spectrum; with the glasses, the color red is pulled to the foreground while violet sits in the far background. Yellows and greens take the middleground.
Side Project 19: Mosaic is shipping now to distributors in Terrapin’s nine-state distribution network, and is available in 1/6 BBL kegs and 22 oz. bottles.
