Terrapin Beer Co. Reports Largest Month in Sales Volume for July 2013

(ATHENS, GA) – Terrapin Beer Co. has reported the largest month in sales volume in company history for July 2013.

Co-founder and President John Cochran recently posted a blog entry detailing the company’s record sales and contrasting those numbers to Terrapin’s early days in the craft beer game.

“In July of 2013, Terrapin sold 4,030 barrels of beer. That’s 8,060 kegs. Or 55,533 cases. Or 124,930 gallons of beer. In only one month!” wrote Cochran. “What really brought the significance of this number home to me was when I realized it was more beer than we sold in all of 2002, 2003 and 2004 combined. Terrapin just sold more beer in one month than we did in our first three years in business!!”

The company sold 162 barrels in 2002 and just over 800 barrels in 2003; the majority sold was Rye Pale Ale (Extreme Cream Ale, now called Golden Ale, was introduced in mid-2003) and all of it was draft. 2004 saw sales more than triple to 2,700 barrels with the introduction of bottles and distribution expanding out of Athens and Atlanta to statewide throughout Georgia.

While the company does give credit to a new Rolec 100 BBL brew system that came online earlier this year­­–having reached maximum production capacity on the previous 25 BBL brew system, they simply could not brew enough to go around-Cochran is clear about where Terrapin’s success has truly originated.

“It’s all about people,” he said. “Craft beer people really are great. Our fans’ loyalty and support over the years has proven that to us, and we know that without them, we would never have gotten the chance to become what we are today.”

Cochran stressed that credit also goes to those inside the company: “On the other side of the equation is the wonderful group of people that make up the Terrapin team. Our brewers, sales team, office staff, packaging team, tour staff… everyone at Terrapin works extremely hard. Yes, it’s a job, but the enthusiasm of our people makes it feel like a large extended family.”
