Stone Old Guardian Extra Hoppy Set For Monday Release
(Escondido,CA) – In 2011, Stone Brewing Co. began a tradition of creating “odd beers for odd years”, in which they made a interesting variation of Stone Old Guardian Barleywine and Stone Imperial Russian Stout. Old Guardian’s Odd spin in 2011 was known as Stone Old Guardian BELGO Barleywine, in which the beer was brewed with a big Belgian yeast strain, and in 2013, Stone Old Guardian OAK-SMOKED was the variant, in which smoked German malts were added to the batch.
We have learned this year’s variation is entitled Stone Old Guardian Extra Hoppy. Many have always considered Old Guardian to be a beer that straddles that line between Barleywine and a Double IPA, Stone Old Guardian – Extra Hoppy is presented as an extra dry hopped version resembling the modern interoperation of a Triple IPA. Stay tuned on Monday for the official press release, here is what we know so far.
