Schlafly Beer Plans to Release Path of Totality Pack for Summer Eclipse
(ST. LOUIS, MO)— Schlafly Beer announces plans to commemorate this summer’s solar eclipse in a big way with a special Path of Totality pack for its Helles-style lager. Starting in June, two months before a large portion of the country (including St. Louis) goes dark from the eclipse, consumers can purchase the special edition, black and metallic silver in all bottles of the beer style, including six and 12-packs. A pair of solar glasses to watch the phenomenon safely will also be included inside the pack. In addition, the largest, locally owned brewery in Missouri will bring the party to the epicenter of the eclipse with the “Schlafly’s Eclipse Field Trip” at the Dew Drop Inn in Bloomsdale, MO.
“St. Louis is along the Path of Totality, the path of the eclipse that will experience total darkness. As science nerds at Schlafly, we are very excited for this, along with the rest of the city, so we wanted to do something fun to celebrate. The last total eclipse seen in St. Louis was almost 550 years before anyone had tried a Schlafly beer back in 1442,” says Founding Brewer Stephen Hale.
While the special edition packaging will run all summer, Schlafly will also pack up the party on eclipse day itself on Monday, August 21 with Schlafly’s Eclipse Field Trip. Eclipse watchers are invited to join Schlafly at the Dew Drop Inn in Bloomsdale, Missouri for the optimal eclipse experience as well as a BBQ, beers, lawn games and live music. For the ultimate excursion, Schlafly will provide an all-inclusive pass including transportation from the Tap Room and back for $45. Tickets are limited and can be purchased at www.schlafly.com/eclipse starting on July 1.
Schlafly’s Lager (4.5% ABV and 17 IBUs) is a bright, golden beer, perfect for summertime. The malts impart a fresh grain character, reminiscent of European lagers. The German Noble hop, Mittelfrüh, lends a mild lemony, spicy flavor. The German word “Helles” translates as “light” and “Lager” means “to store”. This style is an integral part of brewing history and a predecessor of the straw-colored, light-bodied beers which are the most widely consumed beers in the world today. The lager yeast ferments the beer more slowly and at lower temperatures; it is then stored for maturation. This results in a beer which is smoother and drinkable. Today, many American craft brewers offer this style as a maltier and hoppier alternative to American light lagers.
The Path of Totality pack will be available for a suggested retail price of $7.99 for 6-packs and $13.99 for 12-packs. The beers will be available across the brewery’s distribution region as well as in the Schlafly Tap Room or Bottleworks retail areas.
