River North B-Side Avarice Release Details
(Denver, CO) – River North Brewery and Mr. B’s Wine and Spirits have teamed up again, collaborating to release the second beer in the B-Side barrel-aging project.
On Saturday, January 25th, both the brewery and bottle shop will release B-Side Avarice, a new take on River North’s Belgian-style Imperial Stout, aged for exactly one year in freshly emptied rye whiskey barrels.
So dark that no light can escape it, B-Side Avarice fuses the robust dryness of a Belgian-style stout with oak notes and the spicy bite of rye whiskey. A slow sipper, this beer is to be savored, allowing the bouquet of flavors to open up as the brew warms. Enjoy it fresh, or age it for as long as you can stand.
“We tasted these barrels many times over the last months. Each time we were blown away with how the beer was improving with age. Somehow we were able to wait an entire year,” said Matt Hess, founder and head brewer at River North. “Our patience has paid off.”
“Avarice has always been my favorite of River North’s main beers,” said Scott Blauweiss, co-owner of Mr. B’s. “Even though B-Side Quandary – the first beer in the series – was fantastic, this is the one I’ve really been looking forward to.”
As with all B-Side releases, bottles will be limited and only available at the brewery and Mr. B’s. Thirty cases were bottled in total. River North will start its release party at 1pm, pouring the beer on draft at their taproom as well. Mr. B’s will release additional bottles later that afternoon.
The B-Side barrel-aging project is a collaboration between River North Brewery and Mr. B’s Wine and Spirits, located blocks from each other near downtown Denver. The project was conceived by respective owners Matt Hess and Scott Blauweiss, who, over a few pints, got to talking about their ideal barrels for aging beer. Discovering their mutual love for High West whiskeys, the two partnered to make limited, one-off barrel-aged creations for craft beer connoisseurs. Each B-Side creation uses a rare barrel specifically chosen for one of River North’s beers.
Matt and Jessica Hess opened the award-winning River North Brewery in February 2012. Brewing in the RiNo district of Denver, Matt focuses on Belgian styles and American styles with a Belgian twist, with an emphasis on barrel-aging.
