Pisgah Brewing Releases Its Vortex II Russian Imperial Stout With A Chocolaty Twist
Black Mountain, N.C. – The holiday season and cold weather mean something especially exciting to the brewers of Pisgah Brewing Company: SPECIAL STOUTS. The popularity of Pisgah Brewing’s flagship Pale Ale makes it an easy guess as to what the Pisgah brewers are up to week in and week out most of the year, but as the cold settles into our mountainous valleys, the Pisgah brewers begin to worry less about keeping up with Pale Ale production and more about their passion for darker, heavier beers brewed in small batches.
Pisgah Brewing began crafting Vortex beers in 2006 as a plan to experiment with higher gravity brews, named for the gravitational anomaly nestled high upon the Blue Ridge. Pisgah originally began its Vortex series with an Imperial Pale Ale, Vortex I. With the cooler weather now comes the second installment: Vortex II Russian Imperial Stout. This year the brewers plan a special twist on the old time favorite, collaborating with local legend, French Broad Chocolate Factory to chocolatize the Vortex.
The Vortex II is consistently released during the winter months as one of the few 22oz bottles Pisgah specially packages annually. The 2013 batch was split down the middle, and one half will be the original “naked” recipe while the other will soak on massive does of chocolate nibs before being bottled. Pisgah worked with the same Costa Rican cocoa nibs for its 2013 Chocolate Stout, which was raved by the fans of Pisgah Brewing as one of its best versions to date.
Pisgah has big plans for this very limited seasonal, with a release party scheduled in the taproom on Friday, December 20th featuring funky live music from local jazz band The Blood Gypsies. The release begins at 6:30pm with the tapping of the first keg, while 22oz bombers will be available in the taproom in both versions. Music starts at 8pm sharp and food will be available from Ricardo’s Salvadorian Pupusas. Entry to the release is free, and details about the event can be found at www.pisgahbrewing.com.
