Pelican Brewing Debuts Raspberried at Sea
(Pacific City, OR) Pelican Brewing Company this week releases Raspberried at Sea as the next in its 2018 Lone Pelican Small Batch Series, which explores an entirely different segment of beer brewed with copious amounts of fresh Pacific Northwest fruit. Pelican used more than 1,000 pounds of fresh raspberries to create this bright, refreshing brew with a tart raspberry character, layers of fruity complexity and a pink-hued foam. Don the sunglasses and grab a seat in the sunshine for a super refreshing taste of summer—available now for a limited time.
Pelican celebrates the flavors of one of the most delicious and plentiful berries from the Pacific Northwest. Imagining the perfect beer to highlight this glorious fruit led to a lighter touch with malt and hops to allow the raspberries to shine through. Raspberried at Sea starts with a base beer inspired by the Tripels of Belgium, then layers on color and flavor with bountiful amounts of raspberries and carefully selected Abbey-type ale yeast. With a light color topped by pink-hued foam, the new brew brings to mind a delicious, light sparkling rosé—perfect for a warm weather libation.
For this exciting voyage into creating beer with fruit, Pelican had only one compass heading: massive quantities of flavorful fruit blended with perfectly matched beer, re-fermented to create new complexities of flavor. Each beer in this quarterly series is bold in its creation but ephemeral in its duration.
“One of the things I really like about Raspberried at Sea is the way the tartness and tannic dryness from the raspberries create balance and complexity with the soft, rounded fruity flavors of the Abbey yeast, the subtle hopping level and the background malt flavor,” says Darron Welch, founding brewmaster, Pelican Brewing Company. “These new recipes are inspired by all of the natural bounty and produce Oregon has to offer.”
Like the lone pelican flying independently from the flock, this small batch series flies in the face of convention. The Lone Pelican Series takes traditional beer styles and ingredients and reimagines them to demonstrate the vast spectrum of flavor experiences possible in this wonderful beverage. Pelican now expands its line-up to include this new line of fruit beers including 22 oz. bottle distribution and larger draft quantities for on-premise pours.
Raspberried at Sea is born at the beach by a team of award-winning craft beer makers known for brewing styles of beer that they themselves love to drink. Cheers! ABV: 9%, IBU: 25, PLATO: 18º.
