(Longmont, CO and Brevard, NC) – Oskar Blues Brewery is tapping that barrel again with a pair of tasting room-only rum releases.
Aged in fresh-as-hell Jamaican rum barrels for six months, Oskar Blues took two seasonal favorites and gave them a boozy twist. Rum DBC clocks in at 11% ABV while Rum FIDY drops the hammer at 14% ABV. Both will feature exclusively on draft and in 19.2 ounce stovepipes at the Tasty Weasels in Longmont, CO and Brevard, NC for one day only.
“This was a complete no brainer for a barrel aged beer,” said Longmont Cellar Manager Dennis McShea. “Regular DBC takes the palate to a different place from the typical beer world of malt and hops. When you think of coconut, you think tropical and when you think tropical, you think rum. If that wasn’t decadent enough, the beer already has Cholaca, a drink derived from cacao, to top it off. To sum it up we wanted a beer that sends your palate on vacation.”
As if rumming up the score on Death By Coconut wasn’t enough, we took at shot at Ten FIDY as well.
“Years ago we came across a single, recently emptied rum barrel and aged a stout in it,” said McShea. “It was incredibly popular with the staff and we’ve wanted to do it again for a long while. While aging in rum barrels gives less oak and vanilla character than bourbon, the smoothness of the molasses and burnt sugar character of the rum round out the roast of the FIDY and add a unique twist to a beer you thought you knew everything about.”
Both Rum Barrel-Aged brews will be released in a special ONE DAY ONLY, TAPROOM-ONLY event on Saturday, December 17th at Oskar Blues Brewery’s Longmont, CO and Brevard, NC Tasty Weasel Taprooms. Draft and stovepipe cans (12 can limit) will be available, no Crowler fills of these beers.
This is a not-to-be-missed event and we’ve got food, fun times, and rarer that rare… RARER-ER rum beers waiting for ya.
