Odell Brewing Celebrates a History of Small Batch Brewing
Brewery Festival highlights innovative craft brews
On May 31st, Odell Brewing will host its 2nd annual Small Batch Beer Festival. The festival pays homage to innovative brews, fine malts and whole flower hops. A diverse offering of ales hand crafted on Odell’s five barrel brewing system will be featured.
Also known as the “Pilot System”, the brewery’s five barrel brewing system has long been a source for brewing education. In 2005, CSU introduced its first Brewing Science and Technology class. Since then, Odell Brewing has worked closely with the class helping them brew Study Break IPA in 2006 and Easy-A IPA in 2007.
Ali Hamm, a CSU graduate student, was a member of the 2007 Brewing Science course. Hamm has been researching the viability of growing hops in Northern Colorado.
The brewery has been supporting Hamm’s research with the hope of one day sourcing hops locally. Odell uses whole flower hops extensively in both the hop back and in the dry hop process when brewing 5 Barrel Pale and India Pale Ale. Last year, Ali’s hops were used in Odell Brewing’s Hand Picked Pale Ale. This year, she will team up with Odell Brewing again to brew a beer for the Small Batch Beer Festival.
In 2007, close to 2,000 beer enthusiasts came out to enjoy 19 different beers, tasty food, and live music. This year’s festival will feature a new generation of brews, music and fun. The Small Batch Beer Festival runs from 3 – 7 pm on May 31st at Odell Brewing.
