Here is a word from Jamie Floyd, Owner and Founding brewer of Ninkasi Brewing Co.
Those of us at Ninkasi brewing want to say thanks you to all of our supporters for ranking us number one Craft Brewery in the Pacific Northwest. My partner Nikos and I had a dream to first become the village brewer in Eugene and then spread that community driven spirit to the rest of the Northwest and beyond. It is you the beer enthusiast that helped us to create the infrastructure for us to fulfill that dream. So all 29 of us here at NInkasi have raised a pint in your honor for your support! Thank you for all you do. It is folks like you who have spread the gospel that is Ninkasi.
Ninkasi was the Sumerian Goddess of fermentation. In 6500 bc small nomadic clans banded together in the Tigris and Euphrates river valley to grow barley to make bread and beer. This allowed them to stop hunting and gathering and develop agricultural practices, schools, laws and in the need to communicate written language. The Sumerians were not the first to brew but they were the first to write about it on clay tablets in the earliest writing form called Cuniform. Brewing was so integral to their society they had laws about beer production. Ninkasi was their spiritual inspiration and the prayer of Ninkasi was the first written beer recipe explaining how they made beer while extolling the miracle of it’s results. It is our mission to educate the world that beer has been there to support humanity and help cultivate the finer points of society from art to dance to science to issues of the spirit. We are proud to be the village brewer and take our commitment to community serious. We spend countless hours supporting non-profits, the arts, athletics, music and so many more aspects of culture when not making beer. Not having a pub allows us to pursue this goal by allowing us to use resources that embrace and support the community around us.
Thanks again to all of you who tell our tale, buy our beers and enjoy them and culture with each other. We are proud to be here for you and promise to continue to give back to you. We love to make beer! Thanks for the support that allows us to continue! Worship the Goddess!!
Cheers to you!
