Oktoberfest
Guten Tag Ya’ll!
Just wanted to give a heads up that we decided to hold Southern Star Brewery’s 2nd Annual Oktoberfest on October 24th. We will be limiting the party to 225 tickets which will include food, beverages, band and a nice ceramic stein.
We will let you know when the tickets will be available for sale and more details on the event. Also because of the work setting up for the party we have decided to cancel our brewery tour for October 24th. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
Charity Tournament Results
The Laney Bug softball tournament was a success – at least in terms of money being raised for Laney. Our performance was what you would expect from a team sponsored by a brewery. We were eliminated by losing our first two games and Dave tore a ligament, but everyone (dave includede) had a great time for thi9s worthy cause. Thank who articipated for coming out in the sweltering heat and raising some much needed money for a sweet little girl.
Pro-AM Winner: Saison by Mark Kizer and Scott Wells
The Saison(a spiced Belgian Farmhouse ale) is now slowly trickling into a few pubs/bars. Again we can’t give you specifics, but it is out there now. The winners of the competition(Mark Kizer and Scott Wells) helped create the batch at the brewery on July 20th as Dave’s Blog describes:
“The 20th was a pretty special day here at the brewery. Mark Kizer and Scott Wells came out and brewed their Saison, which is presently bubbling away in Dr. Seuss at a balmy 82F. This spiced Belgian farmhouse-style ale is going to go perfectly with the last blistering days of the Texas summer. The Saison is a complex beer, utilizing six different types of malt, three different hops, and even blended yeast. In addition, Grains of paradise, coriander, bitter orange peels and fresh ginger were added to give a rich complement to the herbal, peppery taste imparted by the yeast.
This, by the way, is the winner of our best of show homebrew competition, and will be entered in the GABF Pro-am division this year in Denver. Mark, Scott; thank you guys for coming out and brewing the beer. We had a great time hanging out with y’all and enjoying some of your other tasty home-brewed offerings.”
If you are interested in competing in next years Pro-AM competition then just a heads up that we have decided to hold the contest in April. This will give us more time to ferment and release the batch earlier in the summer.
Distributors
Some of you may have noticed from the website that Southern Star now has four distributors covering a variety of areas in Texas and out of state too. If you are interested in carrying our beer or have a question for the distributor then feel free to contact them.
Brewery Expanding
Sorry for the delay in keeping ya’ll up to date but Southern Star has been expanding by adding new equipment(including fermenters) to help us keep up with the demand(which has been great). We are hoping for everything to be in order by the time Oktoberfest rolls around.
Thanks for your patience!
That’s it for now everyone. And just wanted to give a big “Thank You!” again for all the support you have given us.
Cheers!
Brett
