Modern Times Barrel-Aged Monster’s Park Bottles On Sale Now
San Diego, CA – Modern Times Beer is stoked out of our frickin’ gourds to announce the release of our first barrel-aged beer. Monsters’ Park–our hulking, cantankerous 13% ABV imperial stout–was aged in two different barrels: Rye whiskey & Tennessee whiskey. A third version was created by adding some of our house roasted Black House Blend coffee to two barrels of the rye version.
All three versions turned out remarkably, spectacularly well. The rye version has the most aggressive barrel character, sporting a huge rye nose, with loads of vanilla, oak, & spice on the palate, and a finish that goes on for days; it’ll probably hit its peak in about 6 months and could stand to age as long as 2 years or more. The Tennessee whiskey version is the most complete & it’s ready to drink now: the barrel character is beautifully integrated, with an emphasis on caramel, maple, & vanilla notes. The coffee rye version is the most complex of the three: the coffee perfectly compliments the roasted notes in the beer and mingles effortlessly with the powerful rye character; this one should not be aged since the coffee will fade relatively quick. In sum, these are cockstaggering beers.
You can purchase bottles here, and also read tasting notes while getting all the details on how to pick up your bottles.
In other news, we finally received our full shipment of unbelievably sexy Ritzenhoff crystal glasses from Germany. These are simply the finest beer glasses money can buy (no exaggeration; we looked), and they’re decorated with our super cool three stripe design and sublogo. They are perfect for any style of beer, but they do an especially good job of emphasizing aroma. These babies hold a massive 20oz of liquid too, so they’re the perfect glass to pour our pint cans in to.
They are available in both of our tasting rooms, and you can order them in our online store!
In other news, we’ve got a couple of tasty beers coming down the pipeline. Aurora, a 6.8% ABV red rye IPA loaded with Equinox hops, will hit draft and bottles the first week of October. A revised version of City of the Sun, a 7.5% ABV IPA we released at about this time last year, will be hitting both of our tasting rooms in about 2 weeks, and dang, is it ever tasting promising.
Cheers & thanks,
Jacob McKean
