Lucky Town Receives First Piece of Equipment
Thanks in large part to our Kickstarter backers, Lucky Town recently purchased our first 30 barrel fermenting tank. Without the help from our loyal supporters, this would not have been possible. This twelve foot tall stainless steel vessel will be used to ferment our first batches of beer, and we can’t wait to start filling it up.
Quick Math: Each batch will yield roughly 26 barrels of beer. 26 barrels = 806 gallons = 6,176 pints (16oz)
Lucky Town will begin brewing through a contract brewer – this means that an established brewery will brew and package our beer initially and Lucky Town will be responsible for beer recipes, distribution, sales and marketing. We chose to go with contract brewing for several reasons.
- Brewing can be expedited as there is no need to wait on our own facility to be designed, built, and approved.
- Lucky Town’s beers can be tested in the market while we are working on our production facility.
- Having our beer in the market will allow us to range sales and accurately size our production equipment to meet demand.
Lucky Town has selected Back Forty Beer Company to contract brew our beer. Back Forty is located in Gadsden, Alabama and they are dedicated to brewing high quality craft beer. Our purchased fermenter has already been installed at Back Forty’s brewery and it will be dedicated to fermenting all of our initial batches of beer. As distribution grows, we will begin adding additional tanks at Back Forty’s facility to accommodate the demand which will allow Lucky Town to brew more styles simultaneously. Once Lucky Town’s brewery is built, all of our fermenters will then be moved from Back Forty’s facility into our very own facility here in Mississippi.
Lucky Town is also proud to announce that we have signed distribution agreements with three in-state distributors: Capital City Beverages, F.E.B. Distributing, and Stokes Distributing. These three distributors will cover from the Jackson Area all the way to the Mississippi Gulf Coast. We have gotten to know them all very well over the past year and we feel confident that these partnerships will allow for our customers to find our beers in these regions on a consistent basis. Don’t worry North Mississippi – we didn’t forget about you. We will be expanding distribution statewide in early 2013. Cheers!
