Listermann Brewing Raises Money for Save the Animals Foundation
(Cincinnati, OH) – Listermann Brewing Company hosted a National Dog Day event with Save the Animals Foundation (STAF) this past Saturday August 26th. The event was a celebration of our canine companions and to raise money for STAF. There was a raffle with donations from businesses around the Cincinnati area and adoptable dogs on site. Listermann Brewing Company also donated a portion of sales to STAF during the event. The event was able to raise almost $800 for the charity.
Unfortunately, earlier that week, the brewery received the news from the Ohio Board of Health that dogs are no longer allowed on the premises, including the patio, due to having an operating kitchen located inside. According to Ohio Uniform Food Safety Code Sections 3717-1-6.4 (O): “Live animals may not be allowed on the premises of a food service operation or retail food establishment.”
The brewery has always been dog friendly and loved their four-legged regulars, and now, sadly, will have to turn them away. “It is an unfortunate reality, with these regulations not allowing pets into restaurants and patios,” Head Brewer Jared Lewinski said, “as there are a lot of benefits for socializing animals there, and people like being able to bring their pets out to hang. We have a lot of regulars that this change hits, and it saddens us that we will be seeing less of them due to it.”
Recently Senator Bill Coley and Representative Laura Lanese have each introduced bills that would allow restaurant and bar owners to make that decision for themselves to welcome dogs on their patios, as long as they abide by Ohio Health Department standards for cleanliness and food safety. Representative Lanese’s introduced House Bill 263 which states “A retail food establishment or food service operation may refuse to allow a dog in an outdoor eating area of the establishment or operation, unless the dog is a service dog.”
