Kulshan Brewing News – Expansion and More
Great expansion news coming out of Kulshan Brewing of Bellingham, WA.
Well folks, we did it. Kulshan is now brewin’ with a brand new 15 barrel brew house. The old 7 barrel equipment was decommissioned on Friday February 8th and delivered down to its new home in Olympia. It was a lot of cutting and moving things around to get the old system out and loaded onto a trailer. The days following, many of us spent time cleaning up the brewery and making room for the new vessels while Dave Vitt (owner/founder) dropped off the old vessels and then continued down to Portland Oregon arriving at Metal Craft Fabrications on Monday the 11th to pick up our new equipment. Dave got back to Bellingham on Tuesday night and dropped off the trailer holding the two new shiny vessels here at the brewery. Wednesday the whole crew participated in unloading and moving the new brew house off of the trailer and into its permanent location inside the brewery, which was an all day event. The Bellingham Herald even came out to the brewery to take some photos and write up a short story for the next days paper run. The two weeks following we ran all of the electrical wiring, ran all the new water lines, gas lines, exhaust piping and connected all the pieces. There was an amazing amount of welding needed and it took more that a couple dozen hours for our guys to finish everything that needed to get done. On Tuesday, exactly two weeks after the brew house arrived we were able to start testing all the new toys. Gas was burning, computers were on line, water was flowing and everything worked just as it should. We expect to make our first batch of beer the last week of February.
In other news, Kulshan Brewery participated in the first ever IPA Challange held at Elizebeth Station on Febuary 19th. The challenge was a blind taste test of each local breweries IPA. The North Fork, Boundary Bay, Chuckanut and Kulshan Breweries were all there with our respective IPA’s for the event. Guess who won? You got it, it was Kulshan’s Bastard Kat IPA. We would like to thank all of the people who attended this event and for taking the time to vote for your favorite one.
